Problems logging in are unique to the user and situation, and your case may need to be reviewed.

As a reminder, the library and ACE may be able to help if you are still experiencing problems with logging in.    We can also direct  you to the IT department if you need assistance, tel 889-4800 or in person in the Johnson building at Prestonsburg campus, online  Big Sandy Help Desk.

For now, here are some basic tips.

  • Windows environment is preferred.   Macs, iPhones, and iPads will consistently and continuously require adjustments to work with your submission of data, assignments, and set ups. Should you choose to continue to use Mac products, that will be true throughout your college career at Big Sandy.   The KCTCS systems were set up for Windows ease of use. Should you choose to continue to use Mac products, please factor that extra time into your time schedule.

  • Safari, the default browser for Mac, does not work very well with our learning platforms.
  • Microsoft Edge, the default browser for Windows, does not work very well with our learning platforms.
  • You should install Chrome or another trusted browser.

  • You should clear your cache.  Clearing the cache means deleting the search history, deleting any cookies you have received from sites, and clearing any saved password login data.  This helps if your computer is "stuck" in a loop where it thinks it doesn't have access.

New students in Blackboard: Please remember that this symbol  [a screenshot with a lock and the word Private]  means the instructor hasn't opened the course yet, so you can't interact with it.  Locked courses are common for new students.  The instructor will unlock it when the course begins.  Consult your class schedule.  If it is longer than a few days prior to the beginning of your course, your course module may not even appear in your Blackboard environment, with or without a locked symbol.

New students in Email:  Email accounts aren't created until approximately one week prior to the beginning of your first semester.  Even if you have access to MyPath, OneDrive, and other platforms, your email tile may not appear in MyPath until close to the first day of your first class.
